I just got an iPad Mini and love it, except for one thing: I can't make folders like I do on my iPhone, though even that is difficult in iOS 7.
I really appreciate any help you can offer.
Usually you just have to move one ap over another ap and that should create your folder for you. Then, you can rename the folder to whatever you want. I thought that worked with iPad too, but I suppose I could be wrong.
Oh my goodness. I have spent a crap-ton of time over the past few days putting all my apps into folders. Now, I'm not sure if I'm going to like it that way. lol I can't figure out how to close a folder once I've opened it. I'm about to search on how to do that. lol I'm wondering why there would be a difference between IPad Mini and IPhone.
I've thought about getting an actual IPad just to have a bit more screen room but wasn't really sure if it would be worth it or not.
I'll look forward to answers on this topic.
To close a folder, press the Home button.
I already know how to make folders as I said. I've done this on an iPod and iPhone. The problem is that I move one icon on top of another, but it mever says creating folder. I did turn on reduce motion, something new in iOS 7 which helped with this on the iPhone 4S, but it doesn't seem to help on iPad.
Ok this is really quite discouraging. I did fine in earlier versions of iOS using the iPhone.
So I have turned on Reduce Motion, and even changed the wallpaper to a still photo, something that is recommended if people are confused by the sliding in and out stuff of the new wallpapers. Just did all this to be able to make folders.
Anyway I move the icons one on top the other and it says "on Maps" or whatever, but rarely will it create the folder. I've done everything from wait, to slide around just a bit, and only on a few occasions have I gotten apps into a folder. I've tried to get the app from its, top, side or bottom, to try and use the space differently to see if there is just a way to make it happen, something reliable.
I synced my iCloud and apps, and have around ten pages of apps here that I am trying to organize. This has been really frustrating, because I don't have a problem with the special thing, I know where things are, and have done this on the iPhone. I'm perfectly aware of ratio differences on a larger screen, and that icons can technically be different sizes, etc. although each has a dedicated size limit for the tiles.
I've searched the Internet for the last couple of days with no such luck. I really find it hard to believe I'm the only one struggling with this, or that there isn't some bit of logic that allows you to make the folder.
I know if you hear that high pitched dink sound when an app moves over another, that means the app wants to trade places with the other.
Anyway I'm just shocked at how much I've come up empty on this one.
Ok looks like I have this figured out, so I will try to explain. Joanne pretty near got it last night but I'll see if I can explain for any fat-fingered fool like me. Lol not all of us learned to text before we could talk, or how to type lmfao before we could write our name.
All right, so as you know, each app has a designated tile or square. Visualize your Pad, Pod or phone having squares, with objects inside each square - one per square. That's your app or folder.
Now with iOS7 you move that object from square to square like before, except you need to move it around inside the square to make it sit on top of the object already there and make a folder.
You'll give yourself a headache trying to figure out which corner, or what direction you should move in from, etc. I tried all that it doesn't work: Southwest to northeast, northwest to southeast, etc. doesn't matter.
So what you have to do instead is move your finger around in the square just slightly, but go in at least a diagonal pattern, if not a z or m or w shape, one of those where you have got curves. If it says you moved off the app, just move back on it again. I do believe I am right on this because I've done several of these now, both made a couple folders and moved some apps inside them.
It's a bit of a pain in the ass, if you ask me. But it does work.
Ok I was wrong about one thing: Yes, it doesn't matter from what direction you bring the icon, but to make the folder it seens you need to place the icon on the northwest corner of the tile. If that makes sense.
Well Uncle, i'm glad you finally got it going. Maybe the size of fingers do count? i mean, i must admit, i got reasonably small and long fingers (typical pianist hand lol0). However, which direction you move them together, does not really matter. What matter is the skills of holding it until vo anounce something like 'on top of maps; then, after a second or two, it will anounce something like 'creating navigation foulder'. Ones you get there, you are in the foulder itself. To close the foulder, simple press home button. To drag apps out of the foulder, simply hold and drag the app to the bottom, and hold it for 5 second or so. What happen then, is that your app will be place on the home apps screen page where your foulder at. Visually, you can see the foulder is close, and you are back to the home screen, however, vo does not anounce the foulder is close... Which i think, it did on iOS6.
What's bugging me is trying to arrange the stuff on my screen the way I want it. GRRR. It keeps moving. lol I want to flipflop a couple of things and it won't let me. I try moving one to an empty space but then it's vacancy is immediately refilled with something else. To top it all off, I keep forgetting which folder I put stuff in. lol I suspect I'll be going back to my old ways before this is all said and done so I'd better figure out how to disband a folder. lol Glad you got it figured out, oh ye of the fat finger. lol
